Cobepa started its investment activities in Belgium as part of Paribas of which it became a subsidiary in 1957.
In 1970 Cobepa became listed through the reverse takeover of a company on the Brussels Stock Exchange. From then on Cobepa evidenced impressive growth based on a strategy of investing mainly in family owned companies.
During the 80’s Cobepa developed in Canada and Switzerland, followed by The Netherlands from 1993.
In 2000, Cobepa, with a net worth over 3.5 billion €, was the subject of a takeover bid by its then main shareholder BNP Paribas. Cobepa’s activities became closely linked with the private equity funds sponsored by BNP Paribas and managed by PAI Partners.
