Cobepa started its investment activities in Belgium in 1957 as a dedicated subsidiary of Banque Paribas. Leveraging upon our longstanding experience, excellent reputation and strong expertise, we have been operating as a fully independent investment company since 2004.

Part of the Banque Paribas group, Cobepa became a listed company through the reverse takeover of a business quoted on the Brussels Stock Exchange in 1970. In the years that followed, we achieved impressive growth based on a strategy of investing mainly in family-owned companies.

During the 1980s, Cobepa further broadened its investment activities and expanded into Canada and Switzerland, followed by the Netherlands in the early nineties.

In 2000, with a net worth in excess of Euro 3 billion, Cobepa was the subject of a public private takeover bid by its main shareholder BNP Paribas. Cobepa’s activities thereafter became closely intertwined with those of the private equity funds sponsored by BNP Paribas and managed by PAI Partners, and our investment professionals became part of the PAI Partners team.

In April 2004, after substantial portfolio restructuring, Cobepa was acquired from BNP Paribas through a buy-out transaction sponsored by a group of European family investors assembled by our management. Since then, Cobepa has been a fully independent investment company.

Leveraging a high-quality investment portfolio, strong balance sheet, excellent reputation and significant available funds, Cobepa is well positioned to pursue its strategy of long-term value creation – for the benefit of our shareholders, our investee companies and their management.
